Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between work stress and work engagement in special education teachers in Makassar City. The subjects in this study were special education teachers in Makassar with less than 10 years of service. Subjects in this study amounted to 67 people. This study was categorized into quantitative methods with a simple randomized sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in this study is the work stress scale and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9 (UWES-9). The data analyzed with the Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The correlation coefficient value obtained is r = -0.484, the significance value obtained is p = 0.000, which means p <0.05. These results shows that there is a negative relationship between work stress and work engagement for special school teachers in Makassar City. The higher the work stress of the SLB teacher, the lower the work engagement. The results of this study are expected to be able to make special education teachers realize the importance of having work engagement in carrying out their duties as educators for students with special needs.
